A Prayer for Comfort and Peace
Heavenly Father, You are the Origin and Source of nature and purpose. The Progenitor of vitality and designer of the static and the dynamic. We come before You poor and needy, looking to be filled and reset. For our hearts to stay focused and our brains to stop jumping.
Lord Jesus Christ, You are our Master and Great Physician. The Instructor of our longings and hopes and the Miracle-Worker who can calm the seas of our anxieties and cast out the spirit of forlornness. We look to you this day for restoration, and eyes to see our circumstances correctly.
Holy Spirit, You are the Great Comforter—sent by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as a gift. You come alongside us in suffering and give us words to pray as we sigh. We pray that You would infuse us with manna and dew anew, and fortify us from despair, indifference, and self-destruction.
Triune God, we pray that you would grant us comfort and peace when we:
Fail like Adam.
Are deceived like Eve.
Displaced like Abram.
Incredulous like Sarai.
Impugned like Moses.
Shamed like Noah.
Broken like Isaac.
Betrayed like Jacob.
Tempted like Job.
Persecuted like David.
Ignored like Jeremiah.
Alone like Elijah.
Afraid like Ezekiel.
Obstinate like Jonah.
Guilty like Judas.
Ashamed like Peter.
On trial like Paul.
And falsely accused like our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Though we may become acquainted with grief and are despised, rejected, pierced, and crushed, guide us Man of Sorrows and Prince of Peace. May we be healed by your wounds and our sorrow carried by your grace, this day and forever.
Amen.
